Create a one-of-a-kind patchwork curtain panel inspired by traditional Korean bojagi textiles in this three-week beginner-friendly sewing series. Together, we’ll explore jogakbo — a style of bojagi created by piecing together small fabric remnants into organic, light-filled compositions that resemble stained glass when hung in the window.

Students will learn foundational machine sewing techniques while constructing their own curtain panel using machine-sewn ssamsol (flat-felled) seams, the distinctive reversible seam finish traditionally used in bojagi construction. Along the way, we’ll cover seam finishing, pressing techniques, patchwork composition, and textile assembly in a supportive small-group environment.

Materials: All materials, sewing machines, and tools are included. However, if you have specific cotton or linen fabrics you are wanting to incorporate into your piece, feel free to bring them with you.

Skill Level: All levels are welcome. No prior sewing experience is necessary.

What You’ll Make: One 20” x 30” bojagi café curtain panel.

The three sessions will be broken down as follows:

Week 1: Design & Foundations
Learn machine sewing basics, explore and practice ssamsol flat-felled seams, and begin planning your curtain design through fabric layout and composition.

Week 2: Piecing the Panel
Cut fabric and begin constructing your curtain. Focus on accurate piecing and seam construction as your design takes shape.

Week 3: Finish & Assemble
Complete the panel, refine seams and edges, press, and finish your curtain for hanging and display.
