Saturday, June 20
3pm-6pm
4652 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 90016
In this 3-hour workshop, we will learn how to knit and purl using the Continental style.
For crocheters who are struggling to bridge the distance between the crochet and knitting, this workshop may help! Continental knitting tensions yarn in the left hand and may feel more comfortable and intuitive for avid crocheters looking to master knitting.
For experienced English/throwing style knitters, learning to knit in the Continental style can add speed to your knitting and improve the drape of your fabric. Additionally, gaining mastery in Continental knitting can open the door to two-handed knitting techniques such as two-color brioche, doubleknitting colorwork, and fair isle knitting!
While covering the following topics, participants can expect to also learn how to maintain hand/wrist health.
Topics:
Casting on loosely in the Long Tail Cast On method
Left hand tensioning techniques for smooth control
Practice in knitting in Continental
Three methods for purling in Continental (including the elusive Norwegian Purl!)
Reading your knitting and counting rows for Garter Stitch and Stockinette Stitch
Skill level: Beginner in knitting in English/throwing style knitting or experienced crocheter. This is not a substitute for the “Learn to Knit” class offered through Patchwork.
Instructor: Lindsay Anderson
Materials Needed (Not Included):
Yarn - Any worsted weight yarn
Needles – US 6, US 7, or US 8; circular or straight needles are okay
Materials for taking notes
