Learn to Hem: An Alterations Workshop

$65.00

Sunday, August 16
10am-1pm
4652 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 90016

Have a pair of pants that's just a little too long? A dress or shirt you've been meaning to shorten? Bring it along, and we'll show you how to hem it yourself.

This beginner-friendly workshop starts with a quick introduction to the sewing machine before walking you through one of the most useful sewing skills you can learn: creating a clean, simple hem. You'll leave with a better understanding of how to use a sewing machine and a garment that's ready to wear.

This workshop is perfect for complete beginners—no sewing experience necessary.

What you'll learn:

  • Sewing machine basics and safety

  • How to measure and mark a hem

  • Preparing and pressing your garment

  • Stitching a clean, durable hem

  • Tips for hemming future garments on your own

What to bring:

  • One or two garments you'd like to hem (pants, skirt, dress, or sleeves all work well)

  • We recommend woven fabrics or lightweight denim for your first project. This workshop isn't designed for heavy denim, formalwear, lined garments, or complex alterations.

All sewing machines, thread, pins, and pressing tools are provided.

Cancellation Policy:

Our workshops are intentionally small so everyone has plenty of space, support, and time to create. Because of our limited capacity, each cancellation makes a big difference.

  • Cancel 14 or more days before your workshop: You'll receive a full refund to your original payment method.

  • Cancel between 48 hours and 14 days before your workshop: We'll issue you a Patchwork credit that can be used toward any future workshop or retail purchase.

  • Less than 48 hours before your workshop (or no-shows): Unfortunately, we aren't able to offer refunds or credits.

If you can't make it, you're always welcome to transfer your ticket to a friend—just send us their name and email before the workshop begins.

If Patchwork needs to cancel or reschedule a workshop for any reason, you'll have the choice of a full refund or a credit toward a future event.

We know life happens, and we'll always do our best to be kind and accommodating. Thanks for understanding that these policies help us continue offering small, thoughtfully curated workshops for our community.

Parking:

If you are driving to the workshop, there is only street parking on Washington Blvd. and surrounding residential streets. Make sure to allot enough time to find parking in advance of the workshop’s start time.
