Spend the day at Patchwork sewing the Pleat Top by Àlamain, a modern, easy-to-wear top with an asymmetrical drape and four soft pleats. Its chic, versatile silhouette works just as well for the office or date night as it does for a casual day out and about.
Designed for confident beginners, this one-day workshop will take you through making the Pleat Top from start to finish. Along the way, you'll learn to sew and press clean, even pleats, construct French seams for a beautifully finished interior, and create neat mitered corners.
The Pleat Top is a pull-on style with a relaxed fit, boat neckline, short sleeves, and a side slit. It’s a quick, satisfying project that introduces a few new techniques without being overly complicated—and you’ll leave with a finished handmade top to wear home.
What you'll learn:
How to read and work from a garment sewing pattern
Understanding fabric layout and cutting
Garment construction and finishing techniques
How to accurately sew and press pleats
How to construct French seams
How to sew clean mitered corners
Skill Level:
This workshop is designed for confident beginners who are comfortable operating a sewing machine and have completed at least one or two beginner sewing projects. You should be familiar with basic functions like threading, winding a bobbin, sewing a straight stitch, and backstitching.
If you've taken Patchwork's Intro to Machine Sewing or Stash Pocket Tote Sew-Along, you're ready for this class. This is not an introductory sewing class and is not recommended as a first-ever sewing project.

During registration, please choose your size based on your current measurements. We’ll use this information to prepare the correct pattern size and, if you've selected the Fabric Provided option, ensure we have your correct amount of fabric pre-washed and pressed before the class.

Bring Your Own Fabric — $155
Bring 1–1.5 yards of lightweight woven fabric with little to no stretch and a fluid drape, such as cotton, linen, or crepe. Please purchase and pre-wash your fabric before class.
Fabric Provided — $185
Prefer to make your top with fabric from Patchwork? Choose from several curated fabric options when you register, pictured below. Your 1–1.5 yards of fabric will be washed, prepared, and ready when class begins.
A few notes on the color names: the “khaki” linen is more of an earthy, muted green, while the “denim” cotton is not actual denim—it’s simply a denim-inspired color.
