Quilted Case Workshop

$95.00

Saturday, September 19, at 10:00am–2:00pm
4652 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 90016

Give your favorite piece of technology (or book) a handmade home! In this confident-beginner sewing workshop, you’ll learn how to design and sew a custom quilted case sized specifically to fit your laptop, iPad, Kindle, book, or another small device.

We’ll start by drafting a simple pattern based on the dimensions of your chosen object, then walk through quilting fabric and batting together, making your own bias tape, and neatly finishing a curved edge. You’ll have plenty of room to make the design your own, with your choice of horizontal or vertical orientation and a tie or Velcro closure.

No two cases need to look alike — choose your own fabric from our collection (or you’re welcome to bring your own) and create something functional and one-of-a-kind.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Drafting a simple pattern from measurements

  • Quilting two layers of fabric with batting

  • Making your own bias tape

  • Finishing edges and sewing curves

  • Installing a tie or Velcro closure

What to Bring:

  • All materials and sewing machines are included.

  • Just bring the device or object you’d like your case to fit, and a drink or snack if you wish.

Skill Level: This workshop is designed for confident beginners. Students should already know how to thread and operate a sewing machine and be comfortable sewing basic straight lines. If you’re brand new to machine sewing, we recommend starting with Patchwork’s Intro to Machine Sewing workshop first.
