Betty Apron Workshop

$95.00

Saturday, December 5 · 10:00am–3:30pm (or until finished)
4652 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 90016

Join us at Patchwork for a day of garment sewing as we make the Betty Apron by Merchant & Mills! With its simple slipover silhouette, roomy front pocket, and crossover back, the Betty is a practical everyday apron that you'll reach for again and again. It's a lovely handmade gift for the cook in your life, or a perfect addition to your own kitchen just in time for holiday baking and entertaining.

In this workshop, we'll work through the construction of the apron together, from preparing the straps and attaching the pocket to finishing the neckline and edges. You'll leave with a finished apron and a little more confidence in your sewing skills.

What You'll Learn

  • How to read and work from a garment sewing pattern

  • Fabric layout and cutting

  • Constructing and attaching patch pockets

  • Creating and attaching fabric straps

  • Working with curved edges and facings

  • Finishing seams and creating mitered corners

  • Applying clean, professional edge stitching

Skill Level

This workshop is designed for confident beginners who are comfortable operating a sewing machine and have completed at least a few beginner sewing projects. If you've taken any of Patchwork's other sewing classes, you're ready for this workshop. We won't be covering sewing machine basics in depth, but we're happy to offer a quick refresher if you've taken an introductory class and need a little reminder. If you're not sure, don't hesitate to reach out!

Select Your Size

The Betty Apron pattern comes in three sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. Finished measurements and fabric requirements vary by size. Refer to the size and fabric requirements chart pictured on this page to determine your preferred size and the amount of fabric you'll need.

Choose Your Fabric

Fabric is not included in the workshop registration fee. You have two options for sourcing your fabric:

  • Option 1: Purchase Fabric from Patchwork: Our current fabric offerings are available on our website exclusively to workshop participants. Browse the selection and add your desired fabric to your cart alongside your workshop registration. We'll take care of cutting and pre-washing your fabric ahead of time, so it's ready and waiting for you, along with matching thread, when you arrive for class! (Please note that all Patchwork fabrics are sold in ½-yard increments. Once fabric has been purchased and cut, all sales are final.)

    • If you’re unsure if a particular fabric would work well for this project, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Any linen, linen/cotton blends, or sandwashed cotton options would be a great fit.

  • Option 2: Bring Your Own Fabric: You are also welcome to bring your own fabric. Please note you'll need to bring matching thread if you are supplying your own fabric. Merchant & Mills recommends the following fabrics for the Betty Apron:

    • 5–10 oz linen

    • Linen/cotton blends

    • 5–10 oz denim

Be sure to reference the fabric requirements chart pictured below when purchasing your fabric.

  • Cancel 14 or more days before your workshop: You'll receive a full refund to your original payment method.

  • Cancel between 48 hours and 14 days before your workshop: We'll issue you a Patchwork credit that can be used toward any future workshop or retail purchase.

  • Less than 48 hours before your workshop (or no-shows): Unfortunately, we aren't able to offer refunds or credits.

If you can't make it, you're always welcome to transfer your ticket to a friend—just send us their name and email before the workshop begins.

If Patchwork needs to cancel or reschedule a workshop for any reason, you'll have the choice of a full refund or a credit toward a future event.

We know life happens, and we'll always do our best to be kind and accommodating. Thanks for understanding that these policies help us continue offering small, thoughtfully curated workshops for our community.
