Improv Mini Quilts: A 3-Week Sew-Along Series

$225.00

Wednesdays, October 21, October 28, & November 4 at 6:00-9:00pm
4652 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 90016

This isn't your average quilting class! Instead of rulers and patterns, you'll apply improv piecing and cutting techniques to piece core shapes, including triangles, stripes, and L shapes, into a one-of-a-kind mini quilt. Taught by Paige Greene of Peale Textiles, this 3-week series is a great entry point for makers who want to trust their eye and embrace a "less thinking, more making" mindset toward composition.

What You’ll Make:

  • Each person walks away with a mini quilt unique to them. Hang it on your wall, use it as a hot pad, or stitch it into a table runner. No two pieces are the same.

In this 3-week course, we will cover the following:

  • Week 1: The first week’s class will cover improv quilting basics along with core cutting and sewing techniques.

  • Week 2: Building on week one, we'll continue exploring improv techniques and start assembling compositions, patchworking pieces together.

  • Week 3: This week we'll finish our mini quilts stitching by hand or using the machine (your choice), assembling the quilt top with batting and backing fabric.

What’s Included:

  • Materials (machines, fabric, thread, scissors/rotary cutters, irons) and instruction.

  • A sewing machine will be available to you, but if you prefer to bring your own, you are welcome to do so as long as you are comfortable using it.

What to Bring:

  • We'll provide fabric to choose from, but feel free to bring your own if you'd like to work with something special to you.

  • Water and/or a snack

Skill Level: This workshop is designed for confident beginners. Students should already know how to thread and operate a sewing machine and be comfortable sewing basic straight lines. If you’re brand new to machine sewing, we recommend starting with Patchwork’s Intro to Machine Sewing workshop first.

Cancellation Policy:

Our workshops are intentionally small so everyone has plenty of space, support, and time to create. Because of our limited capacity, each cancellation makes a big difference.

  • Cancel 14 or more days before your workshop: You'll receive a full refund to your original payment method.

  • Cancel between 48 hours and 14 days before your workshop: We'll issue you a Patchwork credit that can be used toward any future workshop or retail purchase.

  • Less than 48 hours before your workshop (or no-shows): Unfortunately, we aren't able to offer refunds or credits.

If you can't make it, you're always welcome to transfer your ticket to a friend—just send us their name and email before the workshop begins.

If Patchwork needs to cancel or reschedule a workshop for any reason, you'll have the choice of a full refund or a credit toward a future event.

We know life happens, and we'll always do our best to be kind and accommodating. Thanks for understanding that these policies help us continue offering small, thoughtfully curated workshops for our community.

Parking:

If you are driving to the workshop, there is only street parking on Washington Blvd. and surrounding residential streets. Make sure to allot enough time to find parking in advance of the workshop’s start time.
